Bygone Days

December 2001

Editorial

And so, dear Reader,

We come round to winter solstice, at once a dark and festive time. The year, dormant in winter repose, is nonetheless fecund with the coming of the light. Here at Bygone Days we offer up two American seasonal tales of hope amidst despair: Christmas Encounter, by Juliet Waldron, and The Miracle by our own Robert Broomall. We also proudly present our first historical novel excerpt--the first chapter of In My Father's Wake by Debra Kemp.

Do come in, take up your grog, your brandy, or your pipe, if you're so inclined, and find a seat round the hearth. Well come! As the storm howls outside, let us take comfort in the words of Percy Byssche Shelley:

The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?
  Noel and namasthe,
K.A. Corlett
